DanHatch has two acquired Finnish hatcheries

The Danish hatchery group DanHatch has acquired 80% of the Nordic meat company HKScan’s hatchery activities in Finland.

The takeover will take place in the beginning of 2015. More specifically, the two hatcheries Mynämäki and Kokemäki will be part of the deal. They have a combined production of 35 million day old chicks. The two hatcheries, which will be placed in the newly established joint venture company DanHatch Finland Oy, will deliver day old chicks to HKScan’s broiler operations in Finland and Estonia.

CEO of DanHatch, Kristian Kristensen, is very satisfied with the acquisition.

- We are happy now to establish ourselves in Finland. The new hatchery activities will geographically become a very strong asset. In connection with the other Danish and Polish hatcheries in the group, they will contribute to increased flexibility and optimisation along with a strengthened sales and purchasing power in the international market, says Kristian Kristensen and continues:

- The Finnish market has a big potential and we will utilise our experiences to increase efficiency and gradually expand the Finnish activities to the benefit of us and our customers. Through hatchery activities in Finland, DanHatch Group will strengthen its possibilities to increase sales of day old chicks to the Baltic markets, where the broiler industry are going through structural changes due to expanding markets, he says.

Kristian Kristensen is furthermore looking forward to the future collaboration with HKScan Finland, which will be a strong and quality minded partner with growth ambitions in the Finnish market. HKScan will continue as a minority shareholder in DanHatch Finland Oy.

The chairman of the board of directors in DanHatch, Christian Junker, sees a great potential in the Finnish acquisition.

- The acquisition of HKScan’s hatcheries is a natural part of the DanHatch Group’s strategy of strengthening the activities in the Baltic Sea region along with other growth markets in Eastern Europe. We see good opportunities for an international hatchery group, which can match the expansion of broiler producers as well as the big European processer groups. This will create synergies across the DanHatch Group to the benefit of competiveness and profitability, says Christian Junker.
